Selectmen set date for Fall Town Meeting
Westborough – At their July 17 meeting, the selectmen approved the date of Monday Oct. 22 for a Fall Town Meeting. The issues to be considered include town department budget increases to cover pay raises. The town's unions are currently negotiating new contracts, and money to pay for any raises included in those contracts has not yet been appropriated by Town Meeting.
Town Coordinator Henry Danis said the Municipal Building Committee (MBC) would come to the selectmen in early September to give an update on their work on a new fire station or fire and police complex. The MBC would probably place an article on the Fall Town Meeting warrant, Danis said.
The MBC has secured funds from the town to demolish the Vee Arc building next to the fire station on Milk Street, and that demolition is underway. The next step for the MBC is to ask Town Meeting for design funds for the new building. After plans are complete, the MBC would come to a future Town Meeting to ask for construction funding.
The MBC told the selectmen in February that the Vee Arc site was too small to build a joint police and fire station, as there would not be enough space for adequate parking. But the MBC has not yet made its final recommendation for the site.
