Annual Spirit of Shrewsbury Fall Festival starts early

Shrewsbury - The Spirit of Shrewsbury (SOS) Fall Festival committee has been meeting since January to prepare for the gala weekend of Sept. 28 through 30.

"Because the committee couldn't squeeze in all of the events during the Spirit weekend," committee President Maria Smith said, "additional events had to be spread out during the month of September. To celebrate all that Shrewsbury has to off er, we encourage the townspeople to get out and 'Join the Spirit' early in the month."

For specific information or to download applications, go to www.spiritofshrewsbury. com. Here's a sneak preview of the town-wide festivities that start in advance of the festival weekend.

Early events On Saturday Sept. 15, the Spirit of Shrewsbury Cruisin' Car Show will be held at Oak Middle School. Become a sponsor, enter the car show, or enjoy the food, music and 50-50 raffle. Advance registration is encouraged, although cars may register at 11 a.m. The first 50 drivers will receive a dashboard plaque. The rain date is Sept. 22. Preliminaries for Shrewsbury Idol will be held Sunday Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. in the Oak Middle School auditorium. The public is welcome to attend and cheer on their favorite singer. Admission is free. Download an application on the SOS Web site.

The Artist Guild of Shrewsbury will hold an Art Exhibit at the Senior Center from Friday Sept. 21 to Friday Oct. 12. The exhibit will showcase a variety of artwork created by the members of the guild. Work will be for sale; a percentage of the sales will be donated to the Senior Center. Come see the talent of local artists, both hobbyists and professionals. Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
