Traditional pre-Thanksgiving 'smoker’ gathers rival coaches, fans

Hudson – Area football fans turned out for food and fun Nov. 19, spending some time with the coaches of both Hudson and Marlborough high school teams, including (l to r) line coach Dutch Holland, freshman coach Tom Kaija, assistant coach Ryan Riley, JV coach Jeff Murphy, assistant coach Jeff Rudzinsky and head coach Sean Mahoney, all from Marlborough High School, along with head coach Dan McAnespie, eighth-grade coach Ron Duffin, assistant coach Matt Gaffny, ninthgrade coach Scott Darlington, and assistant varsity coach Ted Vartanian, all from Hudson High. Missing from the event were Hudson's freshman coach Joe Lentino and defensive coordinator Jim Duggan.

Breaking from a tradition started in the 1970s, this year the annual pre-game "Smoker" at the Hudson Elks Club was held on the Monday before Thanksgiving instead of Tuesday.
