After 23 years, resident continues clearing hydrant

image

Shrewsbury – Bob MacAllister of Shrewsbury shovels snow away from a fire hydrant near his home Dec. 16. He has been removing the snow around this hydrant, which is about four houses away from his home, for the last 23 years. After snowplows cleared the road, there were two to three feet of snow packed around the hydrant. MacAllister has taken it upon himself to tackle this task after each snowstorm to prevent any delay in firefighters' ability to access the hydrant in the event of a fire in the neighborhood.
