City asks residents to clear school stops

Marlborough - Commissioner of Public Works Ron LaFreniere is requesting the assistance of residents throughout the community in removing snow from designated school bus stops.

The department's operations do not include snow removal at school bus stops, which total in the thousands. With snow accumulations continuing to mount, students are waiting in roadways with high snow embankments that in many instances block motorists' view of those students.

"We are asking residents with snow removal equipment capable of clearing sidewalk areas that are used as bus stops and who are physically able, to consider clearing these areas in addition to the driveways and walkways on their property," LaFreniere said.

He encouraged neighborhood residents to share this responsibility with others in their neighborhoods for the safety of school-age children and young adults.

Should residents have any questions about acceptable locations to place snow removed from bus stops, contact the department at 508-624-6910, ext. 7300.
