Southborough's Summer Nights Festival set for June 22

Southborough – Organizers of the Fifth Annual Summer Nights Festival have planned the biggest celebration in the history of the event, which will be held this year Sunday June 22 at the Neary School.

The evening of free entertainment and family fun, sponsored by the Summer Night Volunteer Committee and the Southborough Recreation Department, will include a dunk-tank fundraiser (where festival-goers can dunk a police officer) and an outdoor rock-climbing wall.

Another big attraction will be a visit and book signing by children's author Dayna Hilton and her dog, Sparkles.

Hilton is the author of the children's fire safety book, "Sparkles Goes to Boston," which is set at the Southborough Fire Station and features Fire Chief John Mauro and several Southborough firefighters. "Sparkles Goes to Boston" is a sequel to Hilton's first book, "Sparkles the Fire Safety Dog."

Sparkles stars on the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) television show KIDS Sprout, which off ers fire safety tips to children. Sparkles has also appeared on the television show Fox and Friends.

As in years past, the Southborough Fire Department will host the very popular fire truck slide and the bubble romp. There will also be a moon walk, obstacle course, pony rides, face painting and tattoos – temporary, of course.

Food will be available for purchase from several local vendors, including Domino's Pizza, Quiznos Sub Shop, the Creamery and, new this year, Yama Sakura of Northborough, which will be off ering sushi.

Southborough's Summer Nights Festival will conclude again this year with a fireworks display over Neary Field. The fireworks are being sponsored by local builder Bill Depietri and Capitol Group Properties and Parsons Commercial Group.

Live music will be provided by "The Infractions."
