Vincent J. Perez, 92

Shrewsbury – Vincent J. Perez, 92, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008 in his home.

He leaves his loving wife of 63 years, Louise (Biggio) Perez; his sons, Thomas Perez and his wife, Victoria, and Dr. Mark Perez and his wife, Gloria; his grandchildren, Lisa Perez, Peter Perez, Steven Grimes and Eric Grimes; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

Born and raised in Worcester, the son of Ernest and Elisa (Possidente) Perez, he had lived in Shrewsbury for the past 56 years. He graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester and Bentley School of Accounting and Finance in Waltham.

Mr. Perez served his country first as a non-commissioned officer and then was commissioned in October 1943 as a bombardier-navigator in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served in the European Theater and participated in the Normandy Invasion on D-Day. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal with Four Oak Leaf Clusters and the Distinguished Unit Badge with One Oak Leaf Cluster and several other group citations.

Mr. Perez worked for the federal government as an IRS agent for over 30 years, in the Worcester, Boston and Framingham offices. He was also a senior revenue agent instructor for many years.

He was a life member of the DAV, VFW, and was a member of the Victor R. Quaranta Post # 397 American Legion in Shrewsbury. In addition, he was a member of NARFE, a former 4th Degree member of the Bishop O'Reilly Assembly Knights of Columbus and a faithful member of St. Mary's Parish in Shrewsbury.

Funeral services were held June 23 from the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home and St. Mary's Church, with burial with military honors at Mountain View Cemetery in Shrewsbury. Memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund at St. Mary's Church, 20 Summer St., Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
