Local children perform “Mulan”

image

Marlborough – The audience laughed and cheered as middle school children from the surrounding communities, dressed in elaborate costumes, performed Disney's award-winning "Mulan." Laura Girard playing Mulan and Erika Civitarese playing Musha kept the nearly-packed auditorium of children entertained through several elaborate costume changes.

The 70-minute play was performed at the Marlborough Middle School by the Arts Alliance 2008 Summer Drama Workshop's Children's Theater. The musical performance was based on the Chinese Legend about Hua Mulan, who disguises herself in men's clothes to join the army in place of her father. She ends up saving the emperor.

Marilee Alexander, who directed this year's performance, was proud of the students' achievements. The summer camp program, which is in its 20th year, is one of many programs offered by the Arts Alliance.
