Marlborough – Temple Emanuel of Marlborough hosted a festive Shabbat Service last week to formally welcome Rabbi Barry Krieger to the Temple Emanuel community.

Krieger grew up in Providence, R.I., and attended UMass-Amherst, where he received a bachelor's degree and teacher certification. He also earned his rabbinical degree and two master's degrees in Pennsylvania. He and his wife have two grown sons. Prior to the move, they resided in Bangor, Maine, where the rabbi was an adjunct professor at the University of Maine.

In addition to serving as Temple Emanuel's rabbi, Krieger will continue with his current post as a newspaper columnist for the Bangor Daily News, where has been writing a column on religion since 2004.

"This is a year of new opportunities for me and I hope it is that way for us as a congregation," Krieger wrote in an e-mail introducing himself to the congregation.

The temple is located at 150 Berlin Road in Marlborough. It off ers an egalitarian environment welcoming Jews of all philosophies, including interfaith families. Temple Emanuel is not affiliated with any particular movement; rather, it blends aspects of traditional and conservative philosophies.

Temple Emanuel will hold services for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Rosh Hashanah services will be held Monday Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday Sept. 30 at 9:30 a.m. and Wednesday Oct. 1 at 9:30 a.m. Yom Kippur services will be held Wednesday Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. and Thursday Oct. 9 at 9:30 a.m.
