Claire Spanos, 89

Tewksbury – Claire (Roukas) Spanos, 89, formerly of Marlborough, died at her daughter's home Saturday Oct. 18, 2008, after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Andrew Spanos, who died in 1993.

She is survived by her daughters, Jo Anne McHugh and her husband, Thomas, and Sandra Johnson and her husband, Mark, as well as by her beloved granddaughter, Alexia.

Born in Marlborough, the daughter of Evangelos and Chrisoula (Vasakas) Roukas, she moved to New York City when she was 8 years old. She was a graduate of Girls Commercial High School in Brooklyn, N.Y.

After moving back to Marlborough, where she lived most of her life, Mrs. Spanos became a teller at Marlborough Savings Bank for many years.

Funeral services were held Oct. 21 from Sts. Constantine and Andover, with burial at Maplewood Cemetery of Marlborough. The John P. Rowe Funeral Home assisted with arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 71 Chandler Rd., Andover, MA 01810 or to the Greater Lowell VNA and Care Hospice, P.O. Box 1965, Lowell, MA 01853.
