Roland A. Bachand Sr., 98

Northborough – Roland A. Bachand Sr. 98, of Church Street, died peacefully at home Tuesday Dec. 1 6 , 2 0 0 8 , while on hospice. His loving wife, Gertrude M. (Hickey) Bachand, died in August 2007.

He leaves his sons, Arthur Bachand and Roland "Buddy" Bachand Jr.; his granddaughters, Cassandra Bachand and Marianne Spencer; his brother, the Honorable Cliff ord Bachand; two great-grandchildren, Dillon and Elena; and many nieces and nephews.

Born in Waterbury, Conn., in 1910, the son of Arthur and Zeleda (Brodeur) Bachand, he was raised in Worcester and later settled in Northborough in 1948.

Mr. Bachand worked as a salesman for the former General Baking Co. in Worcester for 30 years until his retirement. He went on to work at Proctor Elementary School in Northborough as a custodian.

He was a turkey farmer who also loved to grow vegetables. He enjoyed traveling and politics, and was a longtime member of St. Rose of Lima Church in Northborough.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 18 from St. Rose of Lima Church, with burial at Hope Cemetery in Worcester. Hays Funeral Home of Northborough directed arrangements.
