‘Adopt a Hydrant’ kicks off for winter

Shrewsbury – With several feet of snow piled in snow banks across town and more expected, the Shrewsbury Fire Department is asking people to help ensure the safety of their neighbors with the "Adopt a Hydrant" program.

Anyone who knows of a hydrant that would be difficult, if not impossible, to access in case of an emergency is asked to shovel out the snow from around each hydrant.

Having people that take responsibility for clearing the hydrants on a regular basis allows firefighters to respond to emergencies in a safe and timely manner.
