U.S. Army Corps of Engineers visits Peaslee School
Northborough – Viola and Delia from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers visit fifth-graders at Peaslee Elementary School in Northborough April 17 to teach them about the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery, one of the first of the great explorations undertaken by the United States.
The visitors discussed various aspects of Lewis and Clark's expedition – from President Thomas Jeff erson appointing Lewis to head the expedition and the uniforms worn by the Corps of Discovery to the animals and plants seen during their travels. The students also learned about the preparation for the trip and discussed the route from the Mississippi River to the West Coast.
The Lewis and Clark Expedition was the first non-combat Army mission and paved the way for civil-works projects by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
