Shrewsbury High community to ‘Remember Michael VonBehren’

Shrewsbury – The "Remembering Michael VonBehren Scholarship" has been created to honor the memory and passion of Michael VonBehren, who was a member of the Shrewsbury High School (SHS) Class of 2009. Mike was killed in December 2008 when he was hit by a wrong-way driver on Interstate 290. In the spirit of Mike's plans to study audio and television production, a scholarship will be awarded to an SHS senior planning to pursue an education in this field.

As a fund-raiser for the scholarship, on Monday May 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. organizers are hosting an event at SHS to remember Mike. Attendees can enjoy a dinner with friends, family and classmates and win some prizes.

Mike's original music, as well as music from his favorite groups, will be played that evening. Since television production was one of his passions, his grandparents, Louis and Barbara VonBehren, have donated a television set to be placed in the SHS Commons (cafeteria) to air announcements and other pertinent video to the student body. The television will be dedicated at the dinner.

Outback Steakhouse will be catering the event and serving steak, chicken, Caesar salad, fries and cheesecake.

Tickets are $10 for students and seniors, $15 for adults and free for children 5 and under. Tickets are on sale at SHS every school day from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:45 to 2:30 p.m., and April 27, 28 and 29 from 7 to 8 p.m.; or send e-mail to rememberingmikevb@gmail. com or call 508-842-3373.
