Fourth time’s the charm

Northborough – The Northborough Youth Soccer Association Girls Under-18 soccer team captured its division of the Massachusetts State Tournament of Champions earlier this month in Lancaster. The team includes (front, l to r) Nicole Henry, Shannon Courtney, Nici Perreault, Casey Dixon, Emily Proos, Jenna Coleman, Emily Lemmerman, (back, l to r) coach Darrell Lemmerman, Heather Carr, Gillian Carlucci, Jessica Jones, Emily Rutan, Meghan McInnis, Erin Kenney, Christina Tescione, Joanna Ostrosky, Nicole McDonnell, Ginny Cousens, Jen King and assistant coach Mike McDonnell.

The team advanced to the semifinals with a 1-0-2 record in group play. In the semifinal round, it defeated Wakefield, 2-1, prevailing, 4-2, in penalty kicks. The team won the tournament with a 2-0 win over Bridgewater in the final.

It was the team's fourth consecutive trip to the state tournament and its first win ever. The team is the first girls team in the history of the Northborough Youth Soccer Association to win a state championship.
