Get a jump on kindergarten at library

Westborough – They've been waiting all summer, and now it's almost here: the first day of school for kindergarteners. And the Children's Room at Westborough Public Library will help them prepare with a special program at 4 p.m. Monday Aug. 31.

"Celebrate going to school"

has been a library off ering for about eight years, said Dottie Hurley, children's librarian.

"We just do some kind of stories and talk with the kids about their anticipation about starting kindergarten," she said.

Some of the books Hurley might read include "My Teacher Sleeps in School" by Leattie Weiss or "Miss Bindegarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten" by

The program runs for about 45 minutes and usually attracts about 30 children, Hurley said.

"It's just a fun way to get kids off to a good start at school. A lot of the children who come to the program have been coming to story times for two or three years," she said. "It's kind of a fun send off to the next step."
