Washington’s Seductive Rieslings

image

The big news from Washington State wine producers is that they are bringing excellent Rieslings to market. Along with Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling is considered to be among the top three white wine varieties. Those from Washington State seduce drinkers with delicious fruit flavors and peachy aromas. The citrusy flavors and relatively light alcoholic content combine with bracing acidity to make these Rieslings natural accompaniments to a variety of foods, particularly seafood and Asian dishes. While young Rieslings are refreshing, this varietal is known to age better than most other white wines. In fact, Riesling can develop considerable complexity when left in the bottle, if one is inclined to wait that long.

Washington Rieslings are known for having a toe in both worlds, bringing together the best of Australian and German styles; they off er a touch of sweetness balanced with refreshing acidity.
