Eleanor Jean Wood, 82

Northborough – Eleanor Jean (Pentland) Wood, 82, died Friday Nov. 20, 2009 in Knollwood Nursing Center of West Boylston after a long illness.

She leaves her beloved husband of 59 years, John R. Wood; her daughter, Barbara Wood and her partner, Michele; her son, John Wood Jr. and his wife, Nancy; her son, Michael Wood and his wife, Paula; her daughter, Carol Wood-Klash and her husband, Ronald; her daughter, Ann Wood; four grandchildren, Jaime, Jessica, Christopher and Elise; two great-granddaughters, Kayla and Addison; her brother, Richard Pentland; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Earl Pentland, and her sister, Constance McKeon.

Born in Worcester, the daughter of Earl and Catherine Pentland, she attended Worcester Public Schools and graduated from St Peter’s High School. She and her husband, John, moved to Northborough in 1954 and she later received a nursing degree from David Hale Fanning Trade School.

Mrs. Wood was a nurse at St. Vincent’s Hospital for 12 years before retiring in 1984. She and her husband were founding members of Saint Bernadette Parish, as well as members of its Altar Society.

A funeral Mass was held Nov. 24 from Saint Bernadette Parish of Northborough, with burial at Howard Street Cemetery. Hays Funeral Home of Northborough assisted with arrangements.
