Mary Anne Awad

Shrewsbury – Mary Anne (Lotuff ) Awad passed away peacefully in her home Monday Nov. 16, 2009. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Awad, in 1991

She is survived by her daughter, Paula Salem and her husband, Larry; two grandchildren, Nicole Trani and John Salem; her siblings, Joseph Lotuff , Salim Lotuff , Robert Lotuff and Shirley Lotuff; three great-grandchildren, Nina and Adam Trani and Callie Salem; and many nieces and nephews.

Born in Worcester, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Adam) Lotuff, she grew up in Worcester and later moved to Shrewsbury when she married her husband, John.

Mrs. Awad retired from Hebert Candy Mansion in Shrewsbury. Previously, she and her husband owned and operated several restaurants in Worcester and Shrewsbury, including the Shish- K-Bob House in Shrewsbury, Sir John’s Restaurant in Worcester, and the snack bar at Big Discount Grocery on Massasoit Road in Worcester.

She was a member of Saint George Orthodox Cathedral in Worcester and its Women’s Club. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Red Sox and the Patriots. Her interests included playing cards, trips to Foxwoods, and traveling. She especially enjoyed her trips to Europe and the Middle East. Her greatest joy was being Sitto to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Nov. 20 from the Mercandante Funeral Home & Chapel of Worcester, with a service at Saint George Orthodox Cathedral and burial at Mountain View Cemetery of Shrewsbury. Memorial donations may be made to Saint George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna St., Worcester, MA 01604.
