John P. Hawes, 75

Shrewsbury – John P. "Jack" Hawes, 75, passed away Wednesday Feb. 17, 2010 in Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center of Northborough.

    He will be sadly missed by his wife of 51 years, Margaret (Jennett) Hawes; a son, John P. Hawes Jr. and his wife, Liliana; a daughter, Lynn A. Chenevert; a sister, Mary Giofreda; a sister-in-law, Joyce Jennett, and a brother-in-law, Cam Loconsolo; and four grandchildren, John Henry and Amanda Lynn and Jenna and Vinny Chenevert, who were his pride and joy and with whom he spent many great moments together. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and many good friends. He was predeceased by two brothers, Kevin and Martin Hawes, and a sister, Frances Loconsolo.

    Born March 17, 1934 in Worcester, the son of the late George A. and Julia T. (Murphy) Hawes, he graduated from St. Peter's High School and Becker Junior College with an associate’s degree in Accounting. He served his country with the United States Air Force for four years.

    Mr. Hawes was a longtime member of Saint Mary's Parish and had served as a lector and usher for many years. He also was active in the Adelphi Council #4181, Knight of Columbus in Shrewsbury, where he participated in many of their great events – playing cards and being a member of the bocce team was two of his favorite things. 1994, he received the Knight of the Year Award. He was an avid sports enthusiast and lifetime Red Sox and Patriots fan.

    A funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 20 from St. Mary's Church of Shrewsbury, with burial with military honors held at Mountain View Cemetery.
