Girls Scouts make hygiene kits for Haitian earthquake victims

Westborough – The Westborough Girl Scout troops joined forces recently to make hygiene kits thatwill be sent to the victims of last month’s earthquake in Haiti.

Troop members who assisted with the project include Margaret Baldwin, Katherine Nikopoulos, Rebecca Siegal, Susie Speed, Cassie DiSaia, Lindsay Ross, Ellen Waite, Christina Buff o, and Rebecca Piscia.

The families of troop members supported the girls’ desire to lend a helping hand by donating most of the products needed for the hygiene kits. In addition, the troop contributed a portion of its cookie profits to include with the kits.

The kits include one hand cloth, one wash cloth, one nail clipper, one bar of soap, one toothbrush, one wide-toothed comb and six band aids. The girls spent part of their meeting time preparing the kits to mail to the Church World Service organization, an organization that will ship the kits on to Haiti.

Westborough Junior Girl Scout troop 30516 helped with the effort by sewing 10 cloth bags and filling them with school supplies for children who had their schools and homes destroyed by the earthquake.
