Westborough̢۪s Model UN Club attends national conference

Westborough – Westborough High School’s Model United Nations Club attended a nationally acclaimed Model United Nations conference last month at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel.

The annual conference is hosted each year by the Boston University Model UN Club. More than 1,300 delegates attended this year from throughout the country, some delegations coming from as far away as Texas and China.

Westborough’s eight-member delegation took full advantage of the conference. Some delegates participated in United- Nations-style resolution making in General Assemblies. There were also a handful of smaller, special assemblies such as Columbian Cabinet and the Pan-African council.

All delegates researched the assigned country’s position on each issue and worked with other delegates, using parliamentary procedure, to create a problem-solving resolution in committee.

In the conference’s closing ceremony, Westborough High senior Kevin Gao won the award for best resolution paper in his committee – Extopia 2376.

Westborough’s Model UN Club members eagerly anticipate this event every year and plan this year to also attend several more Model UN conferences.

In addition to Westborough’s eight-member delegation, three former members of the Westborough Model UN Club – students who are currently attending Villanova, Tufts and American universities – attended the conference and served as the Westborough club’s advisors for the weekend.
