Palmer – Karen Reynolds of Shrewsbury, a long-time employee of Seven Hills Community Services in Worcester, was recognized for her efforts recently by the Department of Developmental Services (DDS).

Reynolds was the recipient of the Self-Determination Award, given annually by the DDS to individuals who embrace the principles of self-determination and self-direction, either through personal action, or for supporting and urging those individuals with intellectual disabilities to take control of their own lives as responsible citizens in their community.

An area director for the DDS, Reynolds received the award for her participation in opening a number of community-based residences for individuals who previously lived in institutions, for her work as coordinator of the Seven Hills Human Rights Committee, and as a facilitator for the Rainbow Support Group.
