Denis Leary suspends campaign for state representative

Region – After recently being confronted with a health concern, and after much discussion with his family, friends and campaign volunteers, Denis M. Leary has decided to end his candidacy for state representative for the 11th Worcester District (Shrewsbury and Westborough).

“This was a difficult decision because I feel a deep sense of commitment to the community, but at this time I feel my priorities have to be my health, family and my on-going responsibility to Veterans Inc.” said Leary, who will continue to serve as the agency’s executive director.

Leary’s name will remain on the September 14 Democratic primary ballot because the deadline to have it removed has already passed, but following the primary his name will be withdrawn from the general election ballot, allowing the Shrewsbury and Westborough Democratic Town Committees to select a replacement nominee.

Leary offered his sincere thanks and appreciation to the outpouring of support his candidacy received and asked that his privacy be respected.
