Donor generosity provides full funding of library Sunday hours

Shrewsbury – The trustees of the Shrewsbury Public Library have announced the completion of the Sunday Library Season. Thanks to the contributions of generous individuals, businesses and civic groups, library users were able to enjoy a full season of Sunday hours from Oct. 4 to May 23 this year. Twenty donors provided over $17,000 in sponsorships to ensure library service from 1 to 5 p.m. each Sunday during the eight-month period. During that time, close to 20,000 people visited the library and borrowed over 23,000 items.

“In these difficul t fisca l times, having the generous support of so many donors not only provides the resources to off er this important service for the community, it makes evident the value that these private, business and civic donors see in their public library,” Trustee Chair Laurie Hogan said. “The board is quite grateful for their generosity and support.”

Sponsors included: Dunkin’ Donuts of Shrewsbury for five Sundays; the Shrewsbury Federal Credit Union sponsored four Sundays; Central One Federal Credit Union and the Shrewsbury Lions Club each sponsored two Sundays; sponsors of single Sundays are Webster Five Cents Savings Bank, the Shrewsbury Firefighters Association, Yu-Bin Liang and Wei Kong Yeoh, Gerald Isaacson, Jeffrey & Priscilla Billingham, the Rotary Club of Shrewsbury, Amica Insurance, Shrewsbury Social Club, David & Johanna Musselman, Polito Development Corp., Julia Gallagher and Jon Grayzel, Laurie and Matt Hogan, the Shrewsbury Town Democratic Committee, and Zuromskis & Whitney Associates Real Estate. There was also an anonymous donor and two memorial donations received in memory of Mary Ryder Harvey and Agnes Ryder Killelea.

The Board of Trustees plans to off er the Sunday sponsorship program during the 2011 season. Until Oct. 3, sponsorships can be booked for next season at the rate of $575 per Sunday. After that date, sponsorships will rise to $600.
