New Italian restaurant will open in former Vinny T’s

Shrewsbury – The Shrewsbury Board of Selectmen approved a license for Italian restaurant Buca di Beppo to operate in the former Vinny T’s location on route 9 at their meeting Aug. 23.

Buca di Beppo, a Minneapolisbased chain with more than 80 locations, operates in states such as Arizona, Ohio, Illinois, Texas and Pennsylvania. The Route 9 location in Shrewsbury, which overlooks Lake Quinsigamond, will be one of four restaurants the company will open in Massachusetts this year. Plans also call for locations in Dedham, Lexington and Seekonk. Buca di Beppo is owned by Planet Hollywood Inc. through its subsidiary BUCA.

The Shrewsbury location, which has been operated under several styles of dining and under various ownerships over the years, closed earlier this summer when Vinny T’s chains around Massachusetts closed down. The new owners plan to reopen as Buca di Beppo in early fall, according to company officials.

The selectmen approved the license with the condition that the new owners make the necessary amendments to comply with local fire codes.
