Messina in a âFight Gone Badâ to raise money for worthy cause

Marlborough – Dr. Chad Messina of Messina Family Chiropractic will be participating in a Fight Gone Bad 5 fund-raiser Friday Sept. 24 to raise money for LiveStrong, Lance Armstrong’s foundation to raise money for cancer research and to help families during the fight as well as during survivorship; Wounded Warrior Project, a group that helps our soldiers as they go through the healing process after being wounded in military duty; and the CrossFit Foundation, which works in a similar way to the Wounded Warrior Project, but also assists with law enforcement others in the first responder community and their families.

In a different take on fund-raisers, Fight Gone Bad 5 is a workout with participants performing at five fitness stations, each for a minute straight, before directly to the next station. Messina will be given a minute’s rest before jumping in again, followed by a third and final round – for those still standing. The stations include wall-ball, 20 pound ball and 10-foot target (reps); sumo deadlift high-pull, 75 pounds (reps); box jumps, 20-inch box (reps); push-press, 75 pounds (reps); and row (calories). The workout was devised by the founder of CrossFit, Greg Glassman, when asked to come up with a routine with physical rigors of a mixed martial arts fight for one of the sports most elite fighters, BJ Penn. After Penn completed the routine, they asked him what he thought and he said it was “like a fight gone bad,” hence the name.
