Volunteers needed for new service in Marlborough

Marlborough – A new service starting up that transports Marlborough residents to medical appointments. This is an entirely volunteer service, is a program of the Marlborough Council on Aging/Senior Center and is called Friends In Service Helping(FISH).

This new service is seeking volunteers to be coordinators or drivers. A coordinator matches a person needing a ride to an available driver from a list of all volunteer drivers. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who would like to do volunteer work from the comfort of their home, as only a phone is needed to coordinate drivers and riders.

Drivers provide round-trip rides to the medical appointments using their own car. They are never required to accept an appointment and can pre-schedule their availability and the distances they will drive. A driver may be called upon once every three to four weeks.

To start this service in the fall of 2010, more volunteers are needed. If you would like to help or need more information call 508-485-649, ext.11, and leave a message. You will be contacted shortly.
