SELCO customers to get 40 percent rate cut in December

Shrewsbury – Thanks to lowerthan expected power costs for 2010, Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations (SELCO) is extending a one-time electric rate cut to all customers.

In a release, SELCO officials said the community owned and operated utility, “finds itself in an unusually strong financial position” and is “passing the savings on to all SELCO electric customers.”

The one-time electric rate reduction will extend to all rate classes on December 2010 bills. SELCO’s regular residential electric rate is $0.1177 per kWh. The one-time rate reduction will mean the electric rate for December 2010 bills will be $.0706 per kWh – a discount of 40 percent. For the average 750 kWh per month customer, this represents a savings of $35.33 for the month of December, SELCO said in the release.

Regular rates will resume with the January 2011 billing, according to SELCO officials.
