Florence Maurello, 89

Shrewsbury – Florence A. (Poplavski) Maurello, 89, died Saturday Dec. 18, 2010, in Milford Care and Rehabilitation Center in Milford. Her husband, Anthony A. “Tony” Maurello, died in 2008.

She leaves two daughters, Marjorie A. Roncone and her husband, Francis, of Sutton and Patricia E. Tamagni of Bellingham; a brother, Edward Polaski of Virginia; a sister, Ann Iveson of Arizona; a daughterin law, Arlene F. Maurello of Shrewsbury; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Joseph T. Maurello, and a daughter, Roberta Lynn Maurello.

Born and raised in Hartford, Conn., the daughter of the late Joseph and Adella (Batzkell) Poplavski, she graduated from the Hartford school system.

Family was top priority to Mrs. Maurello. She spent many wonderful years with her children, and was very involved in all the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved meeting people and, for many years, volunteered her time for the town of Shrewsbury as a warden at the polls. She also spent many afternoons having special lunches with her close friends, “the Living Dolls,” and especially enjoyed her favorite hobby of knitting. She was a member of St. Mary’s Parish in Shrewsbury.

Funeral and burial services were held privately. A Mass celebrating Mrs. Maurello’s life will be celebrated at a later date at Saint Mary’s Church in Shrewsbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472. Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
