Marlborough serves heritage with a side of chowder

Marlborough – Ron Lipka of Northborough and Joe Grimaldo of Marlborough near the finish line of the Main Street Mile, the first of several events of the 16th annual Marlborough Heritage Festival, held downtown Oct. 2.
Lipka finished first overall, in 4:34. Grimaldo came in a close second in 4:35 and his sister, Alexandria, was the first-place female, finishing in 5:39. A hundred runners participated in the race, which is organized by the Highland City Striders. PHOTOS/Ed Karvoski Jr.

A lifetime member of the Marlborough Historical Society, Lynde’s research of the city has proven to be a valuable resource to area historians, genealogists, authors and program presenters. The Marlborough Heritage Festival is presented by the city of Marlborough and the MRCC.

Entertainment throughout the day also included a couple of bands, a country-dance performance and martial arts demonstrations.
- Jim Cronin, the manager of the main office of Marlborough Savings Bank, samples some chowder as one of the five judges of Chowder Fest, the popular highlight of the Heritage Festival. Twelve local eateries competed. The panel of judges picked Kennedy’s Restaurant as first place. Hundreds of festival-goers voted and chose Welly’s Restaurant.
