Butts out or ‘butt’ out

Region – About 20 years ago, Bouvier Pharmacy in Marlborough made the decision to ban the sale of tobacco products. Although it likely cut into their profits over the years, it was a bold statement in the fight against smoking.

Today, several communities are considering a ban of tobacco products in pharmacies. Southborough instituted the restriction in 2010 and Northborough, Shrewsbury and Westborough may eventually follow suit.

Despite the well-documented adverse health effects of smoking however, some officials remain concerned that such a ban would infringe on what many consider an individual choice.
