Ashland – Sophie M. (Rozansky) Young, 89, formerly of Hudson and Cape Canaveral, passed away peacefully Monday, March 26, 2012 at Tufts Medical in Boston. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter T. Young, who passed away in 2001 and with whom she shared 57 years of marriage.

She is survived by her children, Walter and his wife Kathy of Florida, Robert and his wife Leny of Florida, Cynthia and her longtime companion Robert Thibault of Massachusetts, and Mark and his wife Jean of Massachusetts; her brother, Frank Rozansky of Florida; her sister, Rose David of Massachusetts; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

One of 13 children of William Rozansky and Mary (Pastula) Rozansky, she was born in Pennsylvania and resided in multiple states in the U.S. with her husband Wally and children. For many years, she was a factory worker for Thomas Taylor in Hudson.

Mrs. Young enjoyed crafts, cooking, and traveling. She and her husband took numerous cruises and trips, including a particularly memorable tour of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland accompanied by her sister, Rose David, and Mr. Young's sister-in-law, Gladys Young. They enjoyed vacations in Hawaii, as well as trips with family all over the U.S.

In recent years, Mr. and Mrs. Young lived in Florida, but she resided the last two years with her son, Mark, his wife Jean, and their two sons in Massachusetts.

She will be remembered fondly by her family, friends, and the Shawl Ministry of St. Mathias Church of Marlborough for the gifts she personally crocheted for them.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 31, at 4 p.m., in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St., Ashland. Calling hours will be held Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will take place next to her beloved husband at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge, Fla., at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
