Southborough – Spring is here and the Belted Galloways are back in the fields on Breakneck Hill Road. There is a new, rare addition to the group, a red Beltie calf – born to two black parents who must have each been carrying a red gene. Chris Molinaro, vice president of the Breakneck Hill Cow Fund, and caretaker of the Belties, applies liquid bug repellant to the cows – a new formula which turns purple when applied. Molinaro said that the repellant is “super helpful” and lets him see which cows he has covered and which he has missed.
