Northborough groups kick off Annual Backpack Drive

Northborough Moms and Tots and Northborough Helping Hands Association, Inc. are once again teaming up to for the Fifth Annual Backpack Drive to benefit students in need in the Northborough public schools. Last year, a total of 125 backpacks were requested.

Once again, businesses, community organizations, and individuals are invited to assist in making the drive another success. According to the organizers there are several ways to help:

1. Make a monetary donation (checks should be made payable to Northborough Helping Hands Assoc. Inc.) and mailed to PO Box 383, Northborough, MA 01532. Be sure to note that the contribution is for the backpack drive.

2. Gift cards to stores are also welcomed and will be used towards the purchase of school supplies.

3. Donate new school supplies to the Drive.  There will be two local drop-off locations:  4 Longfellow Rd, Northborough and 1 Stratton Way, Northborough. Both locations will have a well- marked plastic bin to receive donations beginning June 1.

Items needed include large backpacks (17″ or larger in gender neutral colors); pencils; Crayola crayons, markers (fine and broad point in classic colors) and colored pencils; glue sticks, pens, pencil sharpeners with barrels, pocket folders, one subject notebooks, insulated lunch bags, scissors, highlighters, rulers, 3×5 index cards, large erasers, loose leaf lined paper, scientific calculators, one and three inch binders, 3×3 post it pads, three subject notebooks, and black Sharpies fine point.

Donations will be used 100 percent towards the effort. Northborough Helping Hands is a recognized 501(c)(3) charity and monetary donations are tax-deductible to the extent provided by the law.
