School choice fails to pass

Northborough/Southborough – A subcommittee of the Northborough-Southborough Regional School Committee recently studied the effects of allowing school choice within the district, and recommended against it.

The decision was supported by the School Committee, which failed to accept school choice, based on the cost of accepting out-of-district students, the limitation of course availability, and the potential overcrowding of classrooms. Because of the program’s formula, each out-of-district student enrolled would have cost the Northborough-Southborough Regional School District approximately $8,000 beyond the reimbursement provided by the student’s hometown.
