Westborough girls tennis goes down swinging

Westborough – Westborough High School’s (WHS) #2 singles player Alanna Judd prepares to return a volley during the MIAA Division 1 State tennis final June 15 at Clark University in Worcester. Westborough was undefeated (20-0) going into the tournament; their opponent was Acton-Boxborough Regional High School (A-B), which had a 14-2 record.

WHS #1 singles sophomore Brianna Greene won 6-4, 6-3, along with the #2 doubles team of Samantha Kehoe and Cailin Li (6-4, 6-3).  Unfortunately, Judd lost 6-0, 6-1, as did the #1 doubles team of Ali Strand and Ayako Mikami (6-3, 6-0).

A-B ultimately prevailed 3-2 to win the State Championship, but WHS proceeded the furthest it ever had before in school history, winning the Mid-Wach B Championship and Central Mass Division 1 title.
