Hudson – William F. Akins, 82, a longtime resident of Hudson, died Monday, June 25, 2012, surrounded by his loving family, at Marlborough Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary (McMullen) Akins of Hudson.

William was born in Boston and raised in Cambridge, the son of Philip and Mary (Hughes) Akins. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Rindge Technical High School in Cambridge. He later graduated from Bentley College.

William was employed as Director of Finance for many years by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (MSPCC) in Boston, until retiring in 1991. He resided in Hudson for 39 years and served on the Hudson Finance Committee and Hudson Planning Board. He was a member of Saint Michael's Parish in Hudson.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his three children, Janice Akins-Fournier and her husband, David, of Northborough; William John Akins and his wife, Jill, of Quincy; and Susan Burns and her husband, William, of Stow. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Henry Fournier and Nicole and Katelyn Burns; his sister in-law, Judith Akins of Dorchester, wife of the late Paul Akins; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Philip, Paul, James, and Mary Akins, and Dorothy Smith.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, June 30, at 11:00 a.m., in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning St., Hudson. Burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetery of Hudson. Calling hours will be held Friday, June 29, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson.
