Shrewsbury selectmen discuss proposed water rate plan to encourage “socially responsible use”

Shrewsbury – A proposed revision of the Shrewsbury water rate and usage plan was discussed at the Aug. 28 Board of Selectmen meeting. The lengthy, dense report contained a multitude of charts, graphs, calculations, and scenarios, all aimed at creating more revenue for the town, while working to encourage more “socially responsible use” of water by both town residents and businesses.

Shrewsbury appeals board upholds decision on trucking terminal

Shrewsbury – The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) upheld a decision by Patricia Sheehan, the town's building inspector, to grant an occupancy permit for a lot located at 249 Hartford Turnpike.

At the Aug. 2 Planning Board meeting, abutters to the lot had protested that the parcel was not actually a “contractor's lot” as the applicants stated, but rather was being used as a trucking terminal.

Region – Today is Friday, Aug. 31, the 244th day of 2012.

On this day in 1997, Diana, Princess of Wales, her boyfriend, Dodi Al-Fayed and the driver of their car, Henri Paul, were killed in a car accident in Paris. Many theories still abound regarding the crash such as an assassination plot against Diana and Al-Fayed, a paparazzi chase, or that Paul was tremendously intoxicated. None have been proven and mystery still surrounds the circumstances of the crash to this day.
