Gregoire, Collins on primary ballot

Marlborough – Two Marlborough residents are vying to be the Democratic candidate to run against incumbent state Rep. Steven Levy, R-Marlborough, this fall in the race to represent the 4th Middlesex District.

But first, voters must choose during the Thursday, Sept. 6 State Primary Election either former state Rep. Danielle Gregoire, who lost to Levy in the 2010 election by 102 votes, or Joseph Collins, who ran unsuccessfully for mayor in 2009 and city councilor in 2011.

Northborough family values duty, honor, country

Northborough – After attending Loyola University for two years, 2010 Algonquin Regional High School graduate Daniel Polanowicz decided to forgo another year at the traditional college. Instead, he decided that being an officer in the military was his calling, and that West Point was the best place to pursue his goal. He gained admission to the elite academy, one of the most prestigious educational establishments in the nation, which boasts astronauts, generals, business leaders and even U.S. presidents as graduates. The United States Military Academy at West Point ranks fourth in the nation for its production of Rhodes scholars, so by any standard, it is a significant accomplishment to gain acceptance to the school.

Marlborough church group hopes to get residents “off the couch”

Marlborough – Nowadays it seems like there are more road races than ever for runners to participate in. Unfortunately there is also another rising trend – obesity and other weight-related illnesses. But a new group formed by the ConnectingPoint Church in Marlborough hopes they can reverse that trend locally, with the help of a popular exercise program, “Couch-to-5K (r) “.

Developed by the website coolrunning.com, Couch-to-5K instructs participants on how to gradually mix a combination of walking and running over an 11-week period until they are able to comfortably run 5 kilometers (approximately three miles).

Hudson Demolition defeats rival

Women's group helps other women better their lives

orthborough – As chair of International Outreach for the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC) of Massachusetts for a two-year term starting June 2010, Northborough resident Fran Warren stresses the group's focus on helping women and children throughout the world.

“We'se mostly trying to develop the skills, the knowledge and opportunity for children and women to better themselves and to help raise them from the dire poverty they live in in their community,” she said.
