Algonquin girls win first volleyball match

Algonquin Regional High School's Emily Carens denies this Hudson High School shot.

Northborough/Southborough – Algonquin Regional High School (ARHS) girls’ volleyball opened the 2012 season by hosting Hudson High School (HHS) Sept 7 in Northborough.  With ARHS senior Marissa Hom back after missing the last nine games of last year’s season due to an injury suffered in a match against HHS, ARHS came out quickly and won the first two sets handily (25-11, 25-16) but HHS battled back to take the third set 25-23.  In the fourth set, the two teams switched leads several times, until ARHS’s Marissa Hirikawa was able to serve two successive winners to win 27-25, making the final match score 3-1 in ARHS’s favor.
