George H. Army Jr., 68

Shrewsbury – George H. Army Jr., 68, of Shrewsbury, passed away Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012 in his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by a son, George J. Army and his wife Elizabeth of Shrewsbury; a daughter, Lynn Sunden and her husband Leif of Worcester; his mother, Regina (Bialobrzeski) Army of Worcester; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Carole Mong.

George was born in Worcester, son of the late George H. Army. He graduated from Worcester Boy’s Trade High School; where he was an all-star in football, basketball and baseball. Following his graduation, George served his nation proudly in the Unites States Navy, during The Cuban Crisis.

George was a longtime staple in the Worcester diner scene, having been the owner of the Miss Worcester Diner for 25 years and The Green Island Diner for 18 years, retiring in 2007. He was a member of the Worcester American Legion Post 435 and the Auburn Sportsman’s Club. He was a 25-year donor to the DAV, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Funeral services are being held privately. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to The VNA Hospice Care Network, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01609.
