Run for a cause with Southborough Rotary Club's Heritage Day 5KSouthboroughUPDATE (10/4/12): Due to a lack of participants, the Heritage Day 5K Road Race has been canceled.

The Southborough Rotary Club is pleased to announce the 36th annual Heritage Day 5K Road Race will be held Sunday, Oct. 7, starting at 10 a.m., as part of the Heritage Day weekend celebration. All proceeds from the road race will benefit the Southborough Food Pantry and Rotary's international efforts in polio eradication. Prizes will be awarded to both male and female running contestants: $150 for first place, $100 for second place, and $50 for third.

Southborough Rotary encourages both runners and walkers to participate, and hopes to get even more of the community involved with walkers, who will follow the 5K route, being able to sign up as teams.

“We invite groups such as town departments, Boy Scout troops, Cub Scouts, Girl Scout, Brownie and Daisy troops, sports teams, kinder groups, families, church youth groups, and neighborhoods to walk together and make 2012 our most successful and impactful race,” commented Rotarian Carl Guyer.

For those of you who aren's inclined to lace up a pair of sneakers, you can still do your part by signing up as a virtual racer. Pay the $20 pre-registration fee, and you'sl get a T-shirt and the satisfaction of knowing you helped out a very important cause.
