Westborough police officer injured in early morning acccident

Westborough – Police Chief Alan Gordon issued this statement this morning:

On 9/26/12, at approximately 5:27 AM, Officer Brian Massey of the Westborough Police Department was operating a 2011 Ford Crown Vic police cruiser on Rte 9 EBL just east of the Lyman St. lights when his cruiser was rear ended. The operator of the 2010 Nissan that struck the cruiser was Casandra L. Zellmer, age 19 of 4 Watt Rd. Worcester.

The rear bumper of the cruiser was damaged and the front end of the Nissan received a significant amount of damage. The investigation revealed that Zellmer had dozed off and drove into the rear of the cruiser which was moving at the time. Officer Massey was treated at the scene by Paramedics from the Westborough Fire Department and was transported to U Mass Medical for treatment. Zellmer was not injured and was issued a citation for operating a motor vehicle so as to endanger.

The accident was investigated by Sgt. Peter Goodney.
