Northborough to hold Household Hazardous Waste Day Nov. 3Northborough – The town of Northborough, in cooperation with United Industrial Services, Zecco Division, will be conducting a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day Saturday, Nov. 3.? Northborough residents only, who have obtained a labeled waste carrier, may bring allowed materials to 345 West Main St. between the hours of 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.

Materials which will be permitted at the drop-off are as follows: oils (spent motor oil), gasoline, gasoline mixtures, auto batteries, pesticides, thinners, spent antifreeze, oil-based paints and stains, photo chemicals, pool chemicals, household chemicals (drain cleaners, cleaners, detergents, etc.,) aerosols, and fluorescent light bulbs.? Latex paint or stain cans may be opened to the air to dry and disposed of with weekly trash.

Materials which will not be permitted at the drop-off are as follows: compressed gas cylinders (propane, oxygen, etc.,) smoke detectors, fireworks, ammunition, radioactives, tires, asbestos, white goods (refrigerators, etc.), pesticides containing Pentachlorophenol and/or 2, 4, 5-T/Silvex, PCB (capacitors, transformers, light ballasts).

No commercial vehicles or commercial wastes will be allowed.

Residents are requested to bring permitted materials to the drop-off in labeled containers (preferably in the original can, bottle, etc.) placed in the cardboard carrier.? The contents shall be packaged in a neat and orderly manner.

Residents will be asked to present their driver's license for residency status and their labeled container at the gate.

In addition, once again metal items will be accepted at no charge; however, no computers, refrigerators, microwaves, or electronics will be allowed.

Boxes for use at the Household Hazardous Waste Day will be available to Northborough residents (one per address) who produce photo ID listing a Northborough address. The charge for the box is $10, and boxes will be available for pick up at the Fire Department headquarters, 11 Pierce St., on the following dates and times:

Tuesday, Oct. 23, 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 27, 9 a.m. – 12 noon

Tuesday, Oct. 30, 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.
