Westborough – Girl Scout Troop 30635 is collecting Halloween costumes to donate to Camp to Belong. The troop is looking for costumes, period clothing, hats, wigs, props (glasses, big shoes, etc.), and any other costume-related items that are appropriate for boys and girls ages 9 to 19 years. Collection is from now through Saturday, Nov. 17, and donations may be dropped off in the collection box located at the top of the stairs in the Westborough Public Library. The costumes will be used at a photo shoot that takes place during a camp-wide birthday party.
Camp To Belong is run by Sibling Connections, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing together children who have been separated from their siblings through foster care. Children attend this camp for one week in late August each summer to spend time and create long-lasting memories with their siblings. One of the camp traditions is a birthday party for all the campers, with cupcakes, a photo booth, and donated gifts for each child.
The campers and counselors of the camp have been grateful for past help and donations. In recent years, members of Troop 30635 have helped the camp with many activities. This past summer, the girls decorated the hall for the birthday party, which delighted campers and counselors. Some members of the troop earned their Silver Award through service with this camp. They created “friendship dolls,” keepsake boxes, a scavenger hunt, and craft and activity kits. Support from the community is appreciated by the troop, counselors and campers.
Costumes, clothing, hats, wigs and props may be donated at the Westborough Public Library from now until Nov. 17.
