Supporting veterans and their families in Shrewsbury

Seamus Shanley, a former Marine and current Worcester firefighter from Shrewsbury, approaches the finish line with his son, Rory, 4, and daughter, Maeve, 2.

Shrewsbury – Over 200 runners and walkers participated in the eighth annual Veterans Memorial 5K Road Race/Walk held Nov. 4, beginning and ending at Veterans Inc. Independence Hall. Garrett Roy, of Shrewsbury, finished first overall in 17:11. Ashley Linder, of Laconia, N.H., was the first-place female in 20:19. Prior to the race, a Salute to Veterans was observed with speakers Vincent Perrone, president and CEO of Veterans Inc.; Denis Leary, vice president and executive director; and state Rep. Matt Beaton, R-Shrewsbury. Proceeds go to Veterans Inc., the largest provider of services to veterans and their families in New England.
