Michael Mariano, 84Shrewsbury – Michael Mariano, of Shrewsbury, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012 in the care of staff and family at St. Camillus Nursing Facility in Whitinsville. He was 84.

Michael was born May 12, 1928, in Shrewsbury, a son of the late John and Caroline (Beatrice) Mariano. A lifelong Shrewsbury resident, he attended Shrewsbury schools and enlisted with the United States Marines Sept. 26, 1945 in Boston, and honorably served his country until his discharge at Quantico Sept. 26, 1949. He was a proud Marine. Semper Fi.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator for over 40 years, primarily for Union Local # 4 before retiring.

Michael was a member of Marine Corps League Worcester Detachment #144 and enjoyed woodworking, sports and the outdoors.

He was predeceased by his siblings, John Mariano and Anne Schnorf.

He leaves his wife, Phyllis C. (Milde) Mariano; his daughter, Frances Mariano Grann and her husband, Eric, of Douglas; his grandchildren, Kristopher, Allison and Garrett; his sisters, Carmella Callotta of Framingham, Rose Russell and Diane Burns, both of Shrewsbury; and nieces and nephews.

The family will gather privately to honor and remember him in Heald & Chiampa Funeral DIrectors ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury Center. Burial will follow with military honors in Mountain View Cemetery.
