Shining a light in Shrewsbury

Aiyah Shahin, 5, holds a glowstick in her hand as her mother Catherine Burke-Shahin looks on at the "Shine a Light on Lung Cancer" vigil.

Shrewsbury – Shrewsbury’s third annual “Shine a Light on Lung Cancer” vigil took place at St. Mary’s Church on Thursday, Nov. 15. Part of a national lung cancer awareness effort, the vigil included speeches by State Rep. Matthew Beaton, R-Shrewsbury, Dr. Carl Novina of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and American Cancer Society volunteer John Cleary. Musical performances  and the lighting of glow sticks to honor those impacted by lung cancer also were part of the event.
