Making way for St. Mary's Credit Union

Westborough – A Friendly's restaurant that has been closed for the past year was demolished today to make room for the new St. Mary's Credit Union Westborough branch.

The site, located on Route 9, across from the McDonald's restaurant on Route 30,has been shuttered since October 2011 by the Friendly's Corporation.

Westborough officials approved a site plan proposal for St. Mary's in September. At that time, bank officials said they were excited to be opening their first- ever Westborough branch, just in time for the bank's 100th anniversary in 2013.

The new branch will be a 3000-square foot one-story building.
